T2: So what? Who cares about code anyway? Well, humans do. Specifically, the users of your app. Actually, let me be more precise: your users don't care about the code. They care about stability. The brain will endorse an app that just works. The brain will put you in agony when you're trying to send an email after an agent, let loose by some developer at your mail provider, decided that "position: sticky" is a trend that got reborn and the send button should definitely flex with it. And what's the most obvious way to achieve system stability in an application? Spoiler: it's not a good system prompt.

Vibe coding and badly applied agentic engineering (which almost everyone applies badly) slow your development down. Before this poor adoption wave, which big tech only accelerated, every second of thinking went into leveling up - like XP in video games. Slow, almost invisible, but over time it built people who could feel what code would do and where it would break before they wrote a single line. Now people vibe code the base of a project, then try to extend it by hand. In my experience, they almost always fail. You can't build manually on a fragile base that only survives contact with a machine: 200 hands patching every hole the second it opens. That doesn't mean the glass is sound. It means 200 stickers are covering the leaks. Too many holes, and you can guess what happens.

Vibe coding does make YOU faster. But not your team, and not your org. Every second saved writing code, a proper reviewer spends 10-20 checking the logic. And reviewers are usually senior, so the org eats the cost and the capacity. Why 10-20? A few reasons, trust among them. But the bigger one is flow. A human coding has it, an LLM doesn't. That gap produces junior-like errors, slow to request changes on and genuinely draining to hit, especially when the next PR from the same people carries the same ones. Requested changes aren't teaching anymore. They're the last gate before slop lands. And that gate is you. Despite what everyone says, it's not a language model problem. It's an attitude problem. Programmers are born to find shortcuts. Give them a machine that spits out CI-passing code, and eventually they'll lean on it constantly. My theory: more code lands on master now than before because reviewers are overwhelmed and burned out. Especially when it's vibe coded. Not that lines of code ever measured anything.

Opus 4.6 > 4.7 > 4.8. 4.8 is a pseudo-intellectual. Great for prototyping and vibe coding, terrible for everything else.

Bun is a SAVIOR of the JavaScript language and ecosystem. Say whatever you want. I’ve been hating for years. And then I finally gave Bun another shot. Bun has batteries included - but on a whole other level. This is what you get in mature, well-designed ecosystems like Rust and Go. No bullshit. Quick and easy to use. Not 35 transpilers and bundlers. The only thing missing is a linter, but I'm sure it's coming. Please, make JavaScript opinionated and consistent. I’m so tired of this messy ecosystem.

Despite how beautiful each modern framework is, everyone has its sins. Unreal Engine 5 - How easy it is to create a 15fps game (Borderlands 4) Ableton Live - Absolutely 0 proper ways of introducing addons. Next.js - Disconnect between loading.jsx and how client fetches pages on demand. That said, I have finally introduced a progress bar for overtyped.vercel.app.

Also. "Music" section on overtyped.vercel.app just got like x5 times slower. I did implement range requests from scratch, but the main issue there is not with my code - it's (potentially) the shitty specs for hobby plan projects on Vercel. Time to migrate.

People often say, "I want to be a great coder," "I wanna get jacked," or "Why is this taking so long to learn?". They’re just focused on the goal, not journey. If your life doesn’t depend on it, take your time. Otherwise, you'll look those precious vibes.
